Powys Dragons is a martial arts club for children aged 3 years plus. Based in Mid-Wales we have clubs from Llansantffraid through Welshpool, Newtown and across to Machynlleth, in fact with several different class locations you are never that far away from a club if you live in the North Powys area!!
Governed by K.B.M.A.C., our syllabus focuses on a modern approach to martial arts. Rather than taking a traditional route and limiting the possibilities of our students, we combine elements of more than one form and provide a variety of complementary skills. The primary form within the syllabus is Nick Cerio's Kenpo style of karate, with other elemental areas of forms such as grappling from Jiu Jitsu; sparring from karate's traditional kumite training and Boxing; and escrima work from the Filipino arts of Kali and Kombatan also included. Our focus is not to provide a sole intense single style, but to allow children to experiment with small portions of a select few arts, enabling them to experience a full and enjoyable time during their training to allow them to further find the area they wish to specialise in as the develop.
Our goal is to help children gain and develop soft skills such as listening, self-control and discipline while expanding their own self confidence.
As part of the K.B.M.A.C., we are also very keen to promote and encourage our children to participate in acts of good deeds within their community. From small things to being part of a larger group harnessing the spirit of doing something good for someone else or for their community is a big part of our teachings.
Our students are keen competitors at many local competitions and often return with a healthy proportion of the medals! More recently we have had several of our members be selected as part of the larger K.B.M.A.C. International Team with some of those being crowned British and International Champions at external competitions with the WKU and WEKAF alongside the K.B.M.A.C. Medal Rush British Championships!
