Powys Dragons' instructors are all qualified black belts, hold full enhanced DBS checks, are paediatric first aid and sports first aid trained. We have all completed Safeguarding in Sport courses provided by High Speed Training & Paul Stewart and undergo regular training to keep current and up to date.
Head Instructor: Emma Owen
Having served in the Royal Navy, Emma is a decorated veteran for wartime serivce in Iraq and Kosovo. Emma has over 20 years experience with martial arts, spanning boxing and the forms of Kenpo, Kombatan and more recently Kombatan Combatives. Having done boxing for 4 years before a shoulder injury forced her to stop, she undertook training in the Filipino stick form Kombatan and the modern Karate - Kenpo, training directly under Gareth Kros of K.B.M.A.C., who was trained by Nick Cerio and Kelee Arrowsmith. Having recently attained her 3rd Dan in Karate, Emma is also a brown belt in Kombatan. Emma has gained a level 1 instructor in Kombatan Combatives, having trained directly under and graded by GM Andy Elliott of Kombatan Combatives International (KCI). A big highlight for Emma was being given the opportunity to train with Kelee Arrowsmith from Advanced Combat Training (ACT) South Africa when she was invited over by K.B.M.A.C. to provide seminars for the children.
Emma is a head judge at the K.B.M.A.C. Medal Rush competitions and a keen member of the K.B.M.A.C. community helping to provide the opportunity for as much access to sports and activities to as many children possible. Emma is also the head of the K.B.M.A.C. Squad. The best of the best from the competitions, earn the right the make the squad. Emma ensures they have access to extra training and are often taken to Martial Arts expo's around the country. The squad this year are embarking on their first international training trip! Emma has trained many British Champions within K.B.M.A.C.
2020 sees Emma become the lead project developer for the new worldwide 3-5 KB Cubs programme. A programme designed to advance and enable as many 3-5 year olds in not only martial arts, but also many other areas throughout the understanding of physical literacy!
Personally, Emma holds a BSc 1st class Degree in Forensic Science, is married to Rob and has 6 children.

Instructor Holly Williams
Holly joined Powys Dragons as an instructor in July 2021, training with Oakley and Emma to get her full time qualification and completing her training in January 2022. Holly has been a member of the KBMAC since she was 6 years old and has a wealth of knowledge under her 2nd Dan black belt. Holly has been a regular on the competition circuit for a long time and often attains gold's and silvers in her categories. Holly is keen to pass on her knowledge and help train other students to reach their full potential. Holly currently assists Emma in our Welshpool and Llansantffraid classes!
Holly is currently studying hairdressing in college and looks forward to where the future takes her given that she has attained many awards at recent competitions within the hairdressing field!

Instructor Viki Owen
Viki joined Powys Dragons as an instructor in October 2021 having undertaken her Cadet Instructor training and advancing to a full time instructor once she turned 16. Viki has been a very active member of the KBMAC since January 2013. A regular on the competition circuit, Viki has an impressive medal and trophy collection. Viki is currently a 1st Dan Black belt and is working hard on her 2nd Dan content.
Viki has recently completed her Performing Arts Qualification and currently works caring in the community during the day and will be seen at all of our classes as an assistant instructor with Emma.

Instructor Chloe Monk-Owen
Chloe joined Powys Dragons in September 2017 as an instructor. Having done martial arts since the age of 10, Chloe began with Judo before changing to train under MD Warriors. As her training has progressed, Chloe found herself wanting to take on more of a challenge and so began her journey to being an instructor by undertaking the K.B.M.A.C. cadet instructor programme. Chloe has competed at several competitions, often walking away with Gold's and Silvers, including at a WKU tournament in April 2017 and a stick fighting competition in Luton during August 2017. Chloe is currently a 2nd Dan Black Belt.
Chloe has been a member of the K.B.M.A.C. competing squad since 2016 and has now progressed to the adult field of the squad!
Chloe regularly competes in world kata championships recently being awarded the rank of 5th in the world for her Kenpo forms in the 18+ category.. going up against Grand Masters in their field!
In her spare time, Chloe enjoys training and is currently enhancing her own martial arts journey with taking up Kombatan. Chloe has completed a Public Services college course and her teacher training through university. Chloe is currently our online course tutor!
